MUTEK PANEL: Mediating the Future of Fashion: E-Textiles and Biotechnology

BioLab member, Jacqueline Beaumont, and founding BioLab member and former lab PI and technician, WhiteFeather Hunter, will be participating in this MUTEK panel tomorrow afternoon.

From the event page:

The panel brings together artists and designers Anouk WipprechtWhiteFeather Hunter, and Jacqueline Beaumont, and will take a speculative and critical stance, drawing from the expertise of the panel and moderator to explore the role of technology in fashioning new bodies, skins and surfaces. The panel’s diverse backgrounds include e-textiles, biotech, and biotextiles, with a connecting thread of each designer’s own practical and conceptual reimaging of the body and surfaces. Through various approaches, these panelist all create some form of “second skin” — defined by the panel’s moderator Dr. Miranda Smitheram as “an interface between the outside and inside worlds, both a barrier and a membrane that can carry cellular, microbial, embedded and networked information.” Join us to hear more about what the future holds for these new mediated surfaces of the self.

This event is presented in collaboration with Eastern Bloc.
